Sing with
Jess Baker

About Me

Based in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. I'm a singer, songwriter and community musician.

I believe that singing belongs to everyone and is a fundamental community building activity. My mission is to make it as joyful and accessible to as many people as possible.

I specialise in running harmony singing groups and workshops in the community, in mental health settings, in prisons and in schools. I provide one-to-one singing lessons for individuals wanting to learn more and take their singing to the next level.

I perform original material using voice and loop pedal under the name Kaninchen, sing in the brilliantly fun Yellow Goose Dance Band, and sing in a touring band with mega Prince nerds Prince Tribute Endorphinmachine.

I hold a Music Performance BMus(Hons) from the University of Huddersfield and an MA in Community Music from the University of York.

I attended Natural Voice Practitioners Network singer leaders training with Frankie Armstrong in 2009, attended Rhiannon's 'Mele A Hakuwale' followed by year long improvisation course 'All The Way In' in 2019. I have completed Vocal Process' 'Singing Teacher Training' and the SOVT Singing Technique course by Oren Boder.

Winter Songs Harmony Singing

Mondays at 7pm-8pm from Nov 30th - Dec 14th

Lockdown has put a stop to live singing, but we can't be stopped, we must sing!

Join Jess for 3 weeks of wonderfully warming songs to guide us towards the festive season. The songs will be a secular and wintery, some old, some new... a bit of a change from singing carols.

Each session will start with vocal warm-ups and then a handful of harmony songs will follow. Jess will teach each part and then put them together live, through the magic of loop pedal (so you can hear all the parts together). Through working in this way you get to learn each part; which is a valuable exercise in ear-training and building musicality. It also means you can choose the part that feels most comfortable for your voice.

For the singing you will be muted so you can sing your socks off (your neighbours/pets/local wildlife will be the ones who will have the gift of hearing your voice!)

Each week you will be sent the zoom link and the theme of the session (as you can see from the picture, props are allowed)

How Much? Sliding scale of £15-25 for the lot, I know its a tricky time for us all at the moment, pay as you are able.
